Abstract

|
Lipoleiomyoma of the uterus is extremely rare and consists of mixed smooth muscle and adipose cells. The histogenesis of this tumor is not clear. It usually occur in the corpus uteri as intramural growth. We report a unique case of a uterine
lipoleiomyoma occuring in the isthmus as a subserosal polypoid mass, measuring 3.5×3.0×3.0cm.
Histologically, it was mostly composed of mature fatty tissue intermingled with small amount of fibrous and smooth muscle components in an irregularly reticular pattern.
Immunohistochemical study revealed a positive reaction of a-smooth muscle actin in smooth muscle actin in smooth muscle fibers. Its histogenesis and a brief review of the literatures also have been discussed.
